How LabelCheck analyses your label
LabelCheck uses artificial intelligence (Claude Opus 4, Anthropic) to analyse your product labels in two successive passes. This page explains our methodology, regulatory sources and limitations — in full transparency.
Dual-pass analysis
Pass 1 — Extraction
Your label image or PDF is sent to the AI vision model. The system exhaustively extracts: visible text, regulatory logos (Triman, sorting instructions, CE marking, etc.), barcodes (EAN-13, QR, DataMatrix), CLP hazard pictograms, and allergen typography.
Pass 2 — Regulatory analysis
Extracted data is analysed against the scoring grid matching your product category. Each criterion is individually evaluated with a status (compliant, warning, non-compliant, informational), a justification and a precise regulatory reference.
Regulatory sources
LabelCheck covers 11 product categories, each with its own regulatory grid:
| Category | Regulation | Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Standard food | INCO Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 | 13 criteria |
| Wine and spirits | Reg. 1308/2013 + 2021/2117 | 12 criteria |
| Dietary supplements | Directive 2002/46/EC + INCO | 12 criteria |
| Infant products | INCO + specific directives | 11 criteria |
| Cosmetics | Reg. (EC) 1223/2009 + Reg. 2023/1545 (83 allergens) | 12 criteria |
| Detergent / CLP | Reg. 1272/2008 + 2024/2865 | 14 criteria |
| Textile | Reg. 1007/2011 + GPSR | 9 criteria |
| Toys | Dir. 2009/48 + Reg. 2025/2509 | 11 criteria |
| Biocides | Reg. 528/2012 + CLP | 12 criteria |
| Medical devices | Reg. 2017/745 MDR + UDI | 12 criteria |
| Non-alcoholic beverages | INCO + Dir. 2012/12 | 12 criteria |
Weighted scoring
Each criterion has a weight proportional to its regulatory criticality. An undeclared allergen (health risk) weighs more than a slightly insufficient font size.
The final score (0-100) is calculated as: sum of points obtained / sum of possible points x 100. Informational criteria (INFO status) do not count towards the score.
Regulatory monitoring
Analysis grids are updated whenever regulations change. Our monitoring system tracks official publications (EU Official Journal, EUR-Lex, national agencies) and regulatory news. Recent updates include Reg. 2023/1545 (83 cosmetic allergens), Reg. 2024/2865 (digital CLP for detergents) and Reg. 2025/2509 (toys).
Transparency and limitations
LabelCheck analysis is a decision-support tool. It does not replace legal advice or validation by an accredited body. The report identifies potential deviations from applicable regulations, but final compliance responsibility lies with the manufacturer or responsible person.
The AI model used is Claude Opus 4.6 (Anthropic), with advanced vision capabilities. Submitted files are encrypted in transit and deleted after 30 days. Anthropic does not use them to train its models.
If in doubt about a specific criterion, we recommend consulting a regulatory consultant specialising in your sector.

Is the analysis legally binding?
No. The LabelCheck report is a verification assistance tool. It identifies potential deviations from regulatory texts but has no legally binding value. For official certification, contact an accredited body (SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas, etc.).
How is the score calculated?
The score is a weighted average of criteria from the grid applicable to your product category. Each criterion has a weight proportional to its regulatory criticality. OK status gives maximum points, WARN gives partial points, BAD gives 0. The final score is out of 100.
How often are the grids updated?
Grids are updated whenever a new regulation comes into force or an existing text is amended. In practice, this means several updates per month.
